365 Days of Hearthstone | Week 13 Roundup

Same drill as always: post the card, talk about my thought process, and any look at feedback I received from my posts on r/CustomHearthstone. Oh, and if you would like to join in on the fun of this challenge or even just want to draw inspiration from our daily themes as they are happening, hop in our Discord server!

Now without further ado, let's take a look at my cards for this week!

Day 83 | Ignus, Mountainheart

An 8-Mana card for Warrior

"I live and die with the mountains."

Creation

I really wanted to make a card that fit into a heavy fatigue-oriented control Warrior deck; Dead Man's Hand is one of the most interesting and cool cards that I have seen in terms of its design. So, for this card, I wanted to give that Warrior deck some sort of infinite value with a minion. Seeing as how Warrior doesn't struggle with gaining armor, and how some Warrior decks that use Bring It On! or Iron Hide in some cases manage to get a lot of Armor gain, I fell in love with the idea of a condition for an effect needing to meet the requirement of having more armor than health. This way, the card becomes easier to play at low health, but due to how armor needs to be removed before health getting any dents in it, the best way to play this card is to gain as much armor as possible!

Feedback

There was little to no feedback on this card. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Day 84 | Runic Lightblade

A Weapon for Paladin

Still can't believe Uther sold this for 10 silver at his yard sale.

Creation

Those of you that have been following my card designs might have realized that I like to take pre-existing ideas in Hearthstone and build upon them. For this theme, I tried to make some sort of variant of Truesilver Champion. The difference between this card and Truesilver Champion is that this one restores Health to everyone, which not only includes your minions but also all enemy characters. Because of that, this card would be a nice fit in some sort of heal Paladin deck, but might struggle finding a fit elsewhere, especially since it also heals the enemy hero, meaning you can't really use it to go face!

Feedback

People thought that the cost of the card was too much for the effect, but I would disagree. With the right deck, having this much healing in one swing of a weapon could be huge, especially when combined with something like Lesser Pearl Spellstone. I do think that the card isn't strong enough to be run in most decks, but I do think it has its place somwhere.

Day 85 | Mha'Teil

A 7-Mana card for Warlock

"In the end, we all shall burn."

Creation

The core of the this card is to be for a controlling Warlock deck. Being able to slap this card down in the late game and remove up to two pretty decent threats while also gaining 10 health is a HUGE upside, but discarding random cards makes it fairly balanced. It is a very strong card, but since it is a Legendary, it would be fine to have that strength about it. Of course, the card could be resurrected by something like Bloodreaver Guldan, but you would just be discarding more cards! Maybe the card could also give support to a disco Warlock deck?

Feedback

There was little to no feedback on this card. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Day 86 | Last of Its Kind

A card involving Adapt

This species can survive anything... maybe.

Creation

The theme of Adapt is really cool to me, and the way I see it is that it's as if the minion is evolving and learning how to take out its surroundings. Because of this, I wanted to make a minion that was essentially evolving perfectly to survive, but just barely. Sort of going off of the extinction vibe, I made Last of Its Kind, which I feel is very inconsistent but can potentially live way longer than you would think!

Feedback

There was little to no feedback on this card. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Day 87 | Ethereal Fabricator

An Epic card for Mage

Why hire an apprentice when you can just make one?

Creation

Seeing the new cards being released from Rise of Shadows that push forwards a sort of summoning Mage archetype, I wanted to make a card that could potentially fit in there too! Similar to Astromancer, Ethereal Fabricator summons a minion based off of its cost. The only difference with this card is that it caps off at summoning a random 6-mana minion, BUT you can still use that 6-mana afterwards since the card is only referencing it and not actually spending it. On average, you could expect around 12 stats for 6-mana. On top of the 4 stats on the card itself, you're getting on average around 16 stats for 4 mana! But that's only if you wait until turn 10.

Feedback

People liked the idea of this card, but there was small debate about whether it should cost less mana or not. I think because of how you are able to still spend the remaining mana afterwards, the card is perfectly fine where it is right now!

Day 88 | Zenbot

Artwork found by Leo #5

He hasn't moved in years... So peaceful.

Creation

The first thing I thought of with this art is how peaceful and zen the robot looks. He's so calm, I couldn't put it on myself to make him hurt another minion, so I made him not able to attack. I also thought it might be interesting to make him Magnetic. This way, he could be put onto high-priority mechs, such as Zilliax to synergize with his Taunt and Lifesteal, or on top of Missile Launcher since it presents a constant threat. That way, the stats Zenbot has will translate into an entirely defensive minion!

Feedback

There was a lot of positive reception to this card, to the point where as of right now it is my highest upvoted card on the subreddit! Anyways, the only concern was playing this card in unison with Mechwarper and Glinda Crowskin in the Wild format, resulting in an infinite buff on a Mech. This is an issue that should be addressed, but if it were to be addressed on this card itself, the intent of the card would be thrown out of the window. So, its either that combo doesn't get addressed, this card gets scrapped, OR one of the other cards should get addressed.

Day 89 | Ethereal Soul

A card involving Spell Damage

With great power, comes great need for card draw.

Creation

Cards that are improved by Spell Damage without straight up dealing damage are super cool; Unexpected Results is such a cool card in terms of both its functionality and its flavor. Going off of this idea, I figured it would be cool to make a card with a similar effect! One issue I have had in the past with trying to make a Spell Damage focused deck is that there isn't really good card draw specific to that archetype. Well, look no further! Ethereal Soul fixes that issue.

Feedback

There was little to no feedback on this card. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Sadly, because the amount of work my friends and I are doing for school, many of them are unable to create cards daily and I am unable to follow which ones are being made from them. Because of this, I will no longer be highlighting the cards they are making every week. But either way, I definitely think you should know who I am doing this challenge with: Josh Grazda, Dakota Williams, Joe Siehl, and Wes Weitzman.

And that's all for this week; I'll see you all in 7 days!
