365 Days of Hearthstone | Week 19 Roundup

Updated: Jun 1, 2019

Same drill as always: post the card, talk about my thought process, and look at any feedback I received from my posts on r/CustomHearthstone. Oh, and if you would like to join in on the fun of this challenge or even just want to draw inspiration from our daily themes as they are happening, hop in our Discord server!

Now without further ado, let's take a look at my cards for this week!

Day 125 | Coldsnap Nomad

A Mage card involving Freeze

"I wait to spread the frost."

Creation

I wanted to take a new angle on Freeze cards that we have previously seen in game for today's theme. Because Freeze is usually not super fun to play against, I wanted to create something that was a bit more interactive. By delaying the Freeze effect to be the next minion that is played, the opponent gets to choose how the card will affect them. Or maybe they don't play a minion at all and pass the effect on to you!

Feedback

There was little to no feedback on this card. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Day 126 | Dimensiotron

Artwork found by Leo #7

They say that his only weakness is a very strong magnet... that and 4 mana transformation spells.

Creation

The creature in this artwork is a gigantic mech snake thing, but along with that it seems to be generating some otherworldy portals from its many hands. By using these two themes, I made Dimensiotron, a Mech that is essentially pulling a mech from a portal (your deck) and attaching it onto itself. Because of how inconsistent it is to have drawn this card while still having big threats like Bull Dozer in your deck, I think the swing capability of this card is fine!

Feedback

There was little to no feedback on this card. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Day 127 | Nature's Guard

A Spell that Buffs a Minion

While enemies are grand in number, the forest shall shine through.

Creation

I had a bit of trouble thinking of something for this theme, so I tried to find artwork to inspire me first. When I found this piece of art, it gave me Druid vibes, as if the glowing figure was something ethereal giving protection to the person in the image. This gave me the idea of using Immune as the central point of the card. On the edges of the art are some monsters that seem to be what the figure is protecting the man from, so I came up with the idea of giving a friendly minion Immunity while there are so many minions on the opponent's side of the board. This way, the opponent needs to find a way to kill off their minions to be able to kill off the minion you put this on! What a way to punish the opponent for going wide.

Feedback

There was little to no feedback on this card. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Day 128 | Demonic Resurgence

A 5-Mana card for Warlock

Demons are at their most ferocious when they've just cheated death.

Creation

I've been sitting on an idea like this for a while where you would revive a Demon, give it Rush, and then it dies at the end of the turn. But I decided to adjust it a little bit and rebalance it for a 5-mana card. And thus we have Demonic Resurgence! Combining this with cards such as Fel Lord Betrug could create some pretty devastating combos that would probably be able to fit in multiple types of decks!

Feedback

There was little to no feedback on this card. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Day 129 | Blade Summoner

A Rare card for Mage

Fencing was just too easy for him.

Creation

The one theme that Mage has that really strikes a chord with me is the idea of summoning minions. I started thinking of a card that I could make to help push this archetype, but then I had the idea of being able to summon a weapon based off of a condition. With Mage being such a spell-heavy class, maybe it's best to have the condition be like Mana Cyclone's where you need to cast a bunch of spells to get maximum value. So then the payoff, stemming off of the idea of spells once more, is a weapon with Spell Damage! The card seems a bit scary, but with how easy it is to remove weapons through things like Acidic Swamp Ooze and how this costs 5-mana, it might be tricky building a good deck around this.

Feedback

Even though it is easy to remove the weapon, you still need to include an Ooze in your deck, which isn't really ideal. So if you don't have weapon removal, this becomes permanent Spell Damage, which is more than likely too strong. Because of this, I'm changing the card to instead generate a weapon with variable Attack values with the same condition of casting multiple spells. This way, there's no issues with being able to deal too much damage but instead this creates a cool way for Mages to actually have a weapon!

And then, as a minor change, the cost of the sword would stay as 5 Mana just for the sake of consistency.

Day 130 | Hand-Me-Down Dealer

A 10-Mana card for Warrior

"Oh, yeh gunna LOVE what I got in store."

Creation

For this theme, I really wanted to try to make an interesting 10-mana weapon for Warrior, but sadly none of my ideas were both interesting and balanced (they were either one or the other). But despite this, I still felt like making something related to weapons in some way. So I thought, instead of making a new weapon, what about a card that interacts with weapons that already exist? Similar to Rummaging Kobold, this card operates by getting more value out of weapons that have already been played and destroyed. Maybe now Gorehowl can get back into the limelight and push a more control-style Warrior deck to the forefront!

Feedback

There was little to no feedback on this card. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Day 131 | Renounced Vigilante

A 3-Mana card for Paladin

He claims he worships the Light, but something tells me he just likes causing trouble.

Creation

Paladins have always struggled with removal, so I wanted to make something that could act as removal but in an interesting way. Through using hand-buff means, you can utilize Renounced Vigilante to get more value... or can you? Most hand-buff effects buff both the attack and health of minions by the same amount, so the difference between the two will always be 2. But if Val'anyr's effect lands on this card, then you get at minimum a 5/5 minion AND you get to move a minion for 3 mana!

Feedback

There was little to no feedback on this card. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Sadly, because the amount of work my friends and I are doing for school, many of them are unable to create cards daily and I am unable to follow which ones are being made from them. Because of this, I will no longer be highlighting the cards they are making every week. But either way, I definitely think you should know who I am doing this challenge with: Josh Grazda, Dakota Williams, Joe Siehl, and Wes Weitzman.

And that's all for this week; I'll see you all in 7 days!
