MY ROLES

Creating nonlinear gameplay.

Every single game of Ghost With The Most is completely unique due to the focus on nonlinear mechanics.

Bones spawn randomly based on a timer to keep the players on their toes, along with lightning that destroys a bone of the player it touches, thus segmenting off portions of the map.

Encouraging player interaction.

In order to make this game truly head-to-head, we added the spook mechanic which allows players to shoot the opponent and destroy their bones.

With how lightning limits where players can go, this mechanic also forces players to have to inevitably deal with the opponent to get bones they need.

The main objective of the game is to collect bones. Naturally, the UI had to reflect this; the UI on the edges of the screen shows off the bones for each player, with their respective color and sides of the screen, and nothing more.

 

When bones are spawning, in order to give the player a heads-up that the playspace was going to change, a timer was implemented with audio cues to make sure the player was informed.

GAMEPLAY MUSIC

MOSTLY GHOSTLY

To keep an upbeat rhythm that matches the gameplay, the drums follow a standard dance pattern with an offbeat hihat and a constant kick drum. This song also combines traditional instruments like a clavicle and grand piano to reflect the abandoned house with a bitcrushed screeching synth to make the song itself sound haunted.

MENU MUSIC

KNOCK KNOCK

With an emphasis on reverb and bouncy percussion, the song sets the mood of some sort of haunting being afoot. After the intro, a simple synth that is essentially a softly pulsing sine wave comes in to take over the player's attention. All of this adds up to give the player an understanding of the spooky yet goofy theming of the game.
